Cell culture is the complex and delicate process of maintaining and growing dispersed cells, which have been isolated from either tissue or serum, under controlled conditions. A growing application of cell culture is the production of cultivated meat in order to meet the exponentially global demand for animal produce.
One of the major challenges facing scientists and engineers involved in this new field is how to efficiently scale-up cell manufacture. To date, food engineers have been able to grow cultivated meat within laboratory settings, but the scale-up falls short of being able to meet the demand for cultivated meat. Furthermore, there is no single cultivation method, and each application requires a customized scale-up solution.
MGT liquid and process systems developed a state-of-the-art bioreactor based processing line, specifically designed for industrial scale production of cell culture. Our tailor-made platforms offer a full turnkey solution for the entire cell culture process. The systems software and controls monitor all critical parameters including cell line growth, medium ingredients and medium recycling. They also address key production concerns such as gas exchange, heat transfer, shear stress, mixing, and foaming.
